New Andro Rubbers!
« on: May 27, 2011, 03:46:26 PM »
Holy crap, whilst scanning through the Andro site, thy have just upload a buttload of new rubbers!

Hexer High Definition!? What the?
Although they have a very intersting concept on Hexer pips and pips+, finally using natural topsheet, and a softer sponge to stay with the competition, but now leads the market with the 90 degree rotation system, I assume they've printed the logo and two edges so that you can choose the pips to have either vertical or horizontal alignment!

Luckily for me, I've found my pips. Phew

They are not released as yet, the Hexer HD is supposed to have a touch harder sponge, but not a harder feel overall. The other rubber is called switcher, its similar in concept to the original sriver concept - the 2 versions originally were seperated by the angle of the pip structure. It wil be interesting to see the differance, one is supposed to loop better and the other hit better.

As for the Hexer Pips, hmmm do you think its a good idea to manufacturer Short pips with high grip, sort of defeats the purpose of using a pip.

I used to think the same way but now have opened my eyes on spiny pips. I have mixed viewed on them though, and as with all rubbers it's horses for courses

Andro really seems to love their Hexer, as there seems to be plenty of different versions available. From what I understand, some of the rubbers don't share anything else but the name? Different sponge, different top sheet, but still Hexer? Not sure I think that is a smart move.

As for spinny pips, I used to think the same, if it's spin you want, then go for inverted, but, I've begun to see that even spinny pips has it's advantages. A spinny sp can actually loop (still weak) but you can still use it to hit and get the flat trajectory of the spin, which you simply don't seem to be able to get with inverted.

And yes, I do love the Wavestone blade(s) =) (And almost 10 sheets of Nittaku Best Anti!)

Ok now let's get the facts right.

Hexer & Hexer + same sponge, just like Tenergy 05 & 64. The pimples are spaced further apart.
Hexer & Hexer Powersponge, same topsheet, Powersponge has softer sponge, just like Tenergy 05 FX has a softer sponge.
Hexer Duro, uses the same pimple structure as Hexer, but has a slightly thicker topsheet than Hexer, it also uses a sponge thats in-between Hexer & Roxon 450, about 3 degrees softer.

So as you can see, they are all related.

Something in common, yes, but it's not the same thing, as sometimes it's the same sponge and some times it's the same top sheet.

Might be just me, but I would prefer if the name followed the top sheet, so that every rubber that shares the same name have the same top sheet. When they change the top sheet, I would very much prefer a different name. Andron might not be alone doing this, but I have always assumed that the same name meant the same top sheet but changes to the sponge.

They all have 3 things in common,

1. Name
2. Type of rubber used in manufacture
3. Made in the same factory.

I was the first Elite Victorian player to use Hexxar whilst everyone else was using Tenergy.
Through robs excellent rubber marketing skills we now have the entire next generation of players in Australia using either hexxar or tenergy.

I thought hexxar plus was too soft, and powersponge was too unpredictable.
And i cried(in a bad way) when i tried duro.

However I have recently tried HD and it is the most magical rubber ive played with since I stopped speed glueing.
Its awesome, it clicks, the ball dips, it really does feel like speed glue (seriously).

After my current rubbers die out im switching to Hexxar HD

I read your post on OOKT, and although I felt like this at mornington, I now have to say that Hexer HD is very blade dependant. Nearly 100% of players trying it have said its the best rubber they have tried - even better than Tenergy 05.

On an Applegren V1 is was at least 30% faster than anything else i've tried, yet on other blades its very controllable. I'm using 2.1mm on a limited edition Giant Dragon Fiberpotence blade.

Won't be Rob's marketing skills having people use Tenergy!  hhh

Rob

Bearing in mind your comment about Hexer HD being blade dependent; what blades or types of blade, would you suggest as a good match?

I'm also curious to know which versions of Hexer you consider as a good match for the Applegren Senso V1? The reason for asking is I have an Applegren Senso V1 in the TT bag and one of my teammate's also plays with one too.

Hey Peter C,

Nice to see you back here! And yes I'd like to know what type of blade Hexer HD is more suited to as well. How do you think it would fare on the Gergely Rob? I'm getting the feeling by the OOAK thread that I'm heading toward trying the HD!

Of course Rob, that's why everyone in the world has just dropped T05.
Don't be silly T05 is on its own out there, don't you think for a minute, if all us minions could find a rubber as good as T05 for less cost we would use it? We can't, and that is why Butterfly can charge an extortionate price for Tenergy, and suckers like me will pay it. Give me an alternative and I will go there, but for the last 2/3 yrs, no rubber at all plays quite like Tenergy. Before you hit me, I HATE IT, I hate paying Butterfly over the odds, but despite all the other manufacturers claims, nothing plays the same, since Sp/glue was banned. I have not played with a rubber that simulates it as well as Tenergy, and obviously, many many players agree with me.

Then stop being blind and try it, you will be surprised and take back your comments. I have already seen the comments of dedicated T05 users. It's not a copy it's better in all aspects.
Peter C, I tried it on an appelgren V1 and it was so fast, yet on a plain applegren very controllable.

Bigears, I did the experiment with Hexer v Tenergy 05, and hexer won hands down nearly every time. But only when the logos were covered. BTY has done a number on all of you. It's amazing what marketing does.

I've also been reading the thread at OOKT, especially loopers comments, find them a little strange, I suppose not everyone likes T05 (although bigears thinks different), so far I think hexer Hd suits stiffer blades. Although depends on your style of play. I had players pick up the Applegren V1 with Hexer Hd and thought it was fast but still good, yet on the new andro carbotox it was like the ball was on a string. And that's an Off blade.

Rob the hard sponge tensors seem not to get their potential spin on soft feeling blades. I used to be able to move Thors from one blade to another and it would behave completely differently depending on how hard the blade was. If HD is weird like that I would try it on an all round blade to tame the speed with a hard surface to get the spin to come out.
