Aussie vs U.K all over again... =)
« on: May 07, 2011, 05:50:18 AM »
Seeing as there haven't been any Aussie vs UK flames lately, I thought I would bring this topic back to life again, by comparing their football leagues. Let's start with some high lights from premiere league in England;

premier league highlights part 1

Looks like the guys knows how to play. Now, lets have a look at what the boys down under put up to compete with this;

*sorry, no directlink, after approximately 20 seconds of advertising, the video starts with some great moments from the Australian football league.

So, what do you say, is it a draw or what?

Only one in a thousand Australians play Soccer, much less than even Table Tennis so we just don't care. The National sport is Cricket, followed by Australian Football and then probably Netball and then Rugby :). All of which we are at or near the top in the world, so that's good enough.

Yes, near the top in those sports, pretty much like USA dominates the world league in Baseball... Wait a second, they are the only ones who play in the  World league of baseball! Just like you guys are pretty much the only ones who plays cricket, rugby and stuff. Well, a few Britts plays cricket as well, but that's about it. :wink:

Quite a few countries play baseball at international level, sure maybe not as many as cricket but imho the USA has never been the number one country in baseball in all the games history, when I was a kid Japan was beating them all the time. Just having a look now they are currently ranked 4th 1. Cuba, 2. Korea, 3. Japan, 4. USA

Are you going to say that nobody plays field hockey next?

Field what? Hockey is supposed to be played on Ice, you do know that, don't you? So, where do you guys place your self in Ice-Hockey? Not to high, I reckon.

As for the other countries playing Cricket, well India used to be a Brittish coloni, if I'm not mistaken, so they might have some bad habits left fromthat time, cricket being on of them. As for the rest of the nations, they might play it, but surely they don't take it seriously. :wink:

Rob, Soccer? What's that? Leave it to yanks and Aussies to use the name football to describe a game that is played mostly with hands and make up an imaginary name for the real football.

JT, I wasn't suggesting that USA dominated Baseball, but every team that have ever won the World series of Baseball have been from USA :wink:

Blocker, nice to have you back mate, I do hope to see you posting here again!

ice hockey is organised thuggery, not a sport :P

See where you're doing it wrong is you're not following the hotties. Have you seen the dutch women's hockey team? Heck, indoor volleyball is where it's at.

In this case, I bow down to your wisdom, even though I don't mind the beach volleyball version, one of few sports where I do prefer the womans game compared to the mens game :shocked:
