How would your dream rubber be?
« on: December 19, 2007, 07:41:12 AM »
If you were to create a dream rubber for your self, what would it be like? Thin or thick top sheet, hard or soft top sheet/sponge? Light, medium or heavy weight? Tacky or grippy? Perhaps only mildly tacky? Would it be aimed at speed, spin or control?

Magna is a perfect rubber for
but i wish the topsheet would stay tacky for more than 1 months, the tack wears off and then it is just very grippy, i love it when it is tacky

asr have you ever tried just a standard sheet of Juic 999 Elite Ultima?  If you like Stiga Magna when it's new, you'll like Juic 999 EU just fine for quite awhile.  It stays nicer much longer.

That is a really difficult question to fully answer. A lot of people change their preferences with time or exposure to other equipment. (See speedplay's numerous threads on equipment for his FH) Some, like me, have yet to discover truly what is best for them. I have used Quattro for the last month. I am not impressed with its speed, but I make real spinny loops with acceptable pace that fall in a lot more than any other rubber I have used to date. When I learn footwork, proper positioning, and decent anticipation, then I can be technically sound enough to try something faster. Another thing to consider is that player's skills improve and can accomodate a faster rubber with different characteristics. I will not make "dream rubber" wishes just now. I would wish for better fundementals and consistancy, along with facilities and a situation to accomplish this first, then worry about dream equipment later.

Thanks for all the tips guys

Spinmax sounds good and i have not yet tried CTE on the topsheet of my rubber

i will try these on older rubbers and see what the results are like

juic Ultima sounds good, what is it like in comparison to Magna, any similarities or major differences?

I've got Spinmax red on the Max Sriver EL and the rubber has definitely performed better as a result, on two different blades, a Michael Maze and Peter Korbel.

my dream rubber would play the same way the first day as 2 years later. will have great feel, be light, and impart great spin.

will make women take off their clothes if they look at it directly.

^Can I buy one?

I would like my rubber to be on a very soft but still fast sponge. A medium thin top sheet, also extremely soft. As tacky as they come would be nice and if it managed to maintain its original condition for a long time, I would be more then pleased.

soft sponge with soft tacky topsheet would be my nightmare rubber,I like soft sponge with grippy topsheet and tacky topsheet with hard sponge but not soft and tacky.
Is that combo not crazy uncontrolable in the short game?

I don't think so, I've played with the blutenkirche 868 on a 30-35 degree sponge and I liked it, but I would want some more speed. Also, some more tackiness wouldn't be a bad thing.

I do hate hard sponges, can't get my game going at all with them.

My dream rubber on forehand would be a Tacki C rubber that was fairly fast.  Anyone know what that rubber is?  Oh, and I don't have to treat it at all.  I get to slap it on and it will perform great right away.  Good topic though Speedplay!  Forums run so much better when you are starting the threads!

;)

Surprise, surprise, I've got a rubber suggestion for you as well. Try Juic 999 Elite Nano, it's faster then tacki C, almost as much spin in the short game and a bit more in the rallies. Lose some in control compared to the tacki C, but given the sped boost, it's worth it!

Yeah, I've been interested in that rubber since I first heard about it.  I'm saving money for something presently, and I am thinking something of the tensor/tuned variety.  I would love to walk away from glue, and rubber treatments altogether, so I'm really considering options on a rubber.

if you like soft tensors just buy 1 sheet of impuls speed, you can try it on BH and FH IMO it's great for both.Best tensor rubber I have bought by a mile,I have used mine now maybe for 2 months and it looks almost like a brand new sheet

edit: imo it's got plenty of speed for FH although Rob recons it doesn't

I would totally use that for my backhand side without thinking another thing about it.  I always have trouble with the fact that I like having a little bit of tack on my forehand side.  I suppose I could use Spinmax on a sheet of Impuls Speed, but I do know for a fact that my favorite rubber on my forehand side is 999 EU from anything that I have tried to date.  The 999 EN, I would guess is just the next step up.

You would really need Silver for that comparison.  I might have hit 5 shots with the Magna.  I really can't say alot about it.  The Magna I tried was about 3 months old and there was no tack on it by this time.

Oh right

its worth trying Magna, it is a great rubber but the only problem is on occasions the hardness of the sponge is different from the last,

even though i get them for a great price $17 it is frustrating when you get a rock hard sponge version, no dwell time at all with those, but they are great for Loop driving and Loop killing which is what i mainly do with my FH but when the need arises to change up the game it is very hard to play a solid slow loop because the ball springs off the rubber very quick

Alfie:

Wondering how the H3 is working on FH?
Also, regarding Impuls Speed, why aren't you using it on FH?
The main problem I am having on my XIom ALL+ setup is with pushing/blocking. What is happening is that on passive blocks and touch shots (pushing and to a lesser extent flips) I am coming up short and intothe net more than I would like.

Every other aspect of my game has improved with this blade. You think it's my technique? When I had a faster blade, my short game was much better-- does that mean that my strokes are funky? On table attacks are not suffering though...it is just on the touch shots.

I am using Energy 2.0 and probably should have gone with max on the FH. I think maybe I need a change on FH. Backhand is ok though. If IMpuls speed is similar to Energy, I will switch to that as I want a durable rubber.
Rob is talking about Omega I or even Yanus DF for FH...any thoughts?
