Hi, hope you are well my friend. Its Fred Dove here...
Don't listen to what Wiggy says he. He has a habit of ASSUMING things. INCORRECTLY of course.
Wiggy has been invited down to play hardbat many times in the past, but has never considered playing in any of our events, so he has no idea what the standard acually is.
He probabbly knows he has a zero change of winning, so COME ON WIGGY bring it on fella...
There will be 6 tournaments at Batts this year so there is no exuse for hiding up mate.

I did in fact beat Costus PAPANTONIOU, (MI.) in a 3 star Senior ETTA ranking event using a £2.05 hardbat (Dunlop Energy Alpha). Costus was actually ranked at 51 nationally at the time (Senior not Vetts). 27/11/2009
Send me your email address and I will send you the results.
I don't tell lies or brag about my wins and losses.

All the best
Fred

Nope, looks like Wiggy/B.E. has no realistic choice but to call those jokers and sign up.  :))

I'm sure Wig Ears will be on later to speak for himself, but it sound like a good win to me. Just wondered how you managed to smuggle a bat like that past the ETTA rubber police?

Curious to know what Wiggy have assumed incorrectly this time? He said he doubted that you would have beaten a top 50 player, and you mention, what I can only assume is your best win, against some one ranked at 51 place. Well, it's close, but it ain't top 50, right?

Also, have Wiggy ever said he would be good at hardbat? What if he was allowed to enter the event with his regular paddle? How do you assume he would do with that, against your self, or other hard bat players?

Hi All

I've been reading this thread with interest for the last week or so, and knowing of Fred and Tony West in our local league was glad to see Fred add his penn'th to the debate.

To add more fuel to the fire, we have 3 top 80 ranked players in the league, and the highest ranked player (top 40) lost his first match the other month against a hard bat player (who although not currently ranked, would be around top 300 going by current form against ranked players).

As an aside BE, why has there been a sudden leap of player rankings by about 30 places in the top 100 in the last month or so?  Players unable to get to ranking matches due to the weather?

Moggy
I may be a better coach than a player, why? My son now tells me what is wrong with my game!

I'm sorry Fred It does look like I'm bringing your game down, I've never actually seen you play hard bat, only your normal style, which is a style I naturally do very well against, I know you are feared by many. My comment about Fred beating a top 50 player is not really to do with Fred, It could be anyone, but I based it on the fact that Henry Buist, one of the great hard batters, was usually ranked around the 100 mark in the senior men, and if you read back I did not say Fred definately did not beat a top 50 player (which would mean I was calling him a liar) I doubted it, thinking it must have been in practice or a top 50 vet.
Fred beat Costas Papantonio, a player I have beaten only once out of about 8 times with regular rubber, so all I can say is well played Fred.

Moggy, Everyone jumps up the ranking list when players drop off due to inactivity afer 6 months of not playing in a ETTA ranking event.

BTW everyone, I don't know how good I am with a hard bat i have hardly played with one, maybe a 10 minute knock in the last 5 yrs, but I suspect Fred would beat me easy.

 Here you go Fred,

Shocks were fairly rare, but there was a big surprise as early as the first round when Fred Dove (Essex) upset the seedings by beating no. 12 seed Costas Papantoniou (Middlesex) 8-11, 11-9, 12-10,  7-11, 11-7. Dong Da Quin, no. six seed came through safely, but, not without a few anxious moments. He needed five games to get the better of Thomas Hughes (Nottingham) 11-13, 7-11, 11-8,

Welcome over here Moggy, this forum is starting to get more life breathed into it again.

Biggy/Wiggy I reckon you best start practicing with the hard bat and take up Fred's challenge!

The problem for me is that these things are on Weekends, and I already have quite a few away from my family playing the regular game. I don't need to prove anything with a hard bat, I KNOW I'm crap.
