Hexer powersponge & Hexer Duro
« on: April 29, 2010, 12:08:35 AM »
What the? Andro have made more versions of the Hexer. Would love to be able to try all this new gear that has been coming    out.
I like reading the reviews on rubbers from when people try them and compare them to other rubbers. I'm staying with the roxon450 but i want to try this Hexer stuff, bad.

I have a sample of the Powersponge arriving in a few Days, Andro was kind enough to send a sheet down for testing.   So I will let you know the in's and outs once I try it.  As for the Duro, its supposed to have a tacky topsheet, but no sign of a release date as yet.

I am currently using the Hexer+, but gee your timing has to be 100% spot on.

Well, it's been awhile later since this thread.  Rob do you have any impressions of these rubbers now?  Does the Hexer Duro really have a tacky topsheet?  What's the throw like on these?  I guess mostly I'm asking about Hexer Duro.

Hexer Duro does not have a tacky topsheet, and to be honest dont really understand how they can claim this.  I think that there meaning of a tacky topsheet is differant to ours.

Hexer Duro has a lower throw than Hexer - very similar to Hexer +

The Highest throw rubber Andro Has is Hexer. It took me some time to get used to it, and to be totally honest, I could not adjust on my backhand - thats why I use Hexer+

         speed    spin    control   hardness  throw_angle  speedglue_feel  closest_morecommon_rubber
H
H+
HD
HP

kinda thing :)

thats a big ask, as there are many similarities. For instance, Hexer+ has a similar throw angle to Hexer Duro,
Hexer Duro has the same spin qualities as Hexer if the ball is brush looped, ZIf the ball is power looped then Hexer wins in this
department.
Speedglue feel in my mind is non existent (at least thats how I feel) To me a speedglue feel is what Plasma 430 or Impuls Speed or Roxon 330,  The closest rubber to a glue feel is without a doubt Plasma 430.
Throw angle - Hexer is the Highest without a doubt. Hexer+ and Hexer Duro is very similar. Hexer Duro is the hardiest so far, and has the thickest topsheet.
I'm not sure what these rubbers feel like, they are very differant to any Andro rubber in the past. They are Fast, they are Spinny, They have very good short game feel (Excellant), The ball flight is pretty similar to speedglue rubber - High ARC, the Sound if hit hard is loud, but timing must be perfect.  I believe they suit players that prefer a game away from the table, by this I mean the 2.1mm version, after playing the last Tournament, I must say they are fast but not Plasma Dynamic, you have more Dwell time, I have not comented on the Powersponge, because the sample I recieved was an ESN sample, and I dont believe it is the final product.

I will over the next week try a sheet of Powersponge and report Back.

No - not by a long Shot. I will persist with the Hexer Series for at least a few more weeks. Roxon is still stuck in the back of my mind.  Only Time will tell.

They feel very similar. The thicker topsheet reduces the throw angle to one very similar to hexer+

Yesterday I was in shop where I tried for 15min Hexer Duro on Andro Temper Tech OFF blade. This combo had quite hard feeling.Duro felt hard with a very good grip but not a tack. Blocking was excellent, push was very controllable with a huge amount of back spin, serves were deadly. Opening loops ....hmmm, I had no particular problem, but what stroke me was that although the combo didn't feel fast I kept on looping half a meter after the end of the table with a very, very high throw. Then the shopkeeper looped against me and the arc was also very high. On the other side was a Hexer Powersponge and I had few hits with it as well, but didn't pay big attention to it, nice feeling in general. Then I compared all those with the normal Hexer which I have and know well and felt like.... oh yeah......"home sweet home". I didn't dare to buy Duro, since I wasn't sure how it will play on my  Hallmark Carbon Extreme or Senkoh90, but I know myself and next month or week I'll have another EJ attack which will lead me quickly to the shop for a cure......Now I'm doing a final check of my pocket on the way to a shop where I saw that irresistible Rakza7

I tried Hexer Powersponge and thought it felt quite similar to Roxon 330, perhaps a fraction less soft. Easy rubber to use, not 100% sure its as fast as R330. Definitely not as fast as R450. Extra control to R450 though, not that R450 is bad control, but R330 and Hexer PS much more forgiving. My hit with Hexer PS was brief, so I'm not sure of my impressions, especially as it wasn't on my own blade. I now have a 2nd Gergely and a sheet of R330, which so far I have only tried on Galaxy T8. I get the feeling if I like R330 on Gergely, I would also like Hexer PS on it. I thought there was a fair speedglue feel to the Hexer PS.

Can anyone else comment and add to my thoughts here?

Kolev, nice to have you here!

Now, you got me a bit interested in the Duro, but you said your loops wnet long, was this because of the speed being higher then you thought it was, or was it because it lacked spin to create the arc needed to pull the ball back on the table?

If Powersponge is softer then regular Hexer, then it's certainly not for me, I want something harder, which I get the feeling that Duro might be?

I know this is an old post, but I thought it seemed interesting.  I liked the question Speedplay.  What caused shots to go long?
