Vinnie's Equipment Suggestions!
« on: January 31, 2010, 09:53:01 AM »
I am having a lot of trouble with equipment at the moment, and atHoney's great suggestion, I thought I would make a topic dedicated tosuggestions of equipment that I can get, and just STICK with, and canteach me the proper parts of the game that I need to know. All of thesesuggestions can then be gathered, and people can vote which setup theythink would be best for me to go with.

Also, I'm not a total beginner, having played for around a year now, soI know a bit about how to loop etc., and am just wanting to get back ontrack with development. Would that suggest I'd want something with atad more speed than your standard beginners setup?

Ultimately,I am aiming for a looping game, but I would still like to incorporatesome all-round-ness into there too, with some chopping, blocking, etc.

Let me know if further details are needed.

Thank you!

P.S. Since I'll probably be buying from Rob, Rob's opinion will be highly sought. PLEASE don't suggest something like a $225 Butterfly blade with Tenergy on it.
I am addicted to edge tape.

Been playing for: 10 months (7 at a club)
Blade: Donic Opticon RS
FH: Andro Roxon 450 (2.0)
BH: Yasaka Mark V (1.5)

I reckon you should try one of the Transcend rubbers on your backhand and then maybe go with one of the Faster rubbers for FH (or 729-5/729-08).
SU 1: DAWEI Genote Bio X50 - HIGHER I/CREAM TRANSCEND
SU 2: FH: Jupiter BH: Venus

Hiya Vinnie,
I'm not going to be much help here as I am pretty new to all the equipment options out there, even though I've been playing a long time.
But since you haven't had any replies other than Shagga, I thought I'd throw in my thoughts to help the thread along...

I would be thinking not to worry about speed too much at this stage and get something very general with good spin and control on both sides. I don't know whether going to a tensor early in your career is good or not.... but just something reasonably forgiving (but still with good speed/spin) with which you can cement good, solid and correct strokes into your style. I think it's important to get basics right and then raise the bar with regards to equipment once you have good integrity to build on.
Cheers,
Chris

in the first year of play I think 90% of players shouldnt go past old generation rubbers on a wood bat. any thickness is ok, keep it cheap and get used to everyone's spin first.  once you understand and can return spinny serves 80% of the time up your spin on your rubbers

Are you an athlete?  Have you competed in other sports? (if so what?)  Is your competitiveness, and focus good?  What's your favorite color?  There's a point to the ?'s.
