Gluing Topsheet To Sponge
« on: July 26, 2009, 09:28:24 AM »
I am wondering if anyone can give me detailed instructions on how to glue a topsheet to a sponge. I have never done this kind of stuff, so Newbie friendly is preferable.

I use Copydex by the way.

Thanks.

I've only ever done 1 re-glue job on topsheet to sponge Vincent and it didn't work real well. However, having thought about it I know what I did wrong, which was not to allow the glue to dry enough before putting them together, so the glue didn't dry well enough after that. So if I was to do it again (assuming we are talking gluing inverted to sponge here), I would lay glue on the topsheet around and on the pimples and let it dry. I would also put a layer on the sponge and let it dry. Then when dry I would put a thin layer of glue again on the sponge and join sponge and topsheet together and lay something on top that will apply gentle pressure but not crush the sponge and topsheet together.

As I said, haven't actually done this, so if anyone has a better method, let's hear it please.

Well, I would avoid getting glue on the rubber sheet, except for on the pips, as glue on the rest of the rubber will make it curl.

   1. Glue the sponge a little bit more than normal. Put the topsheet on to the sponge directly and with the pimples    against the glue.
   2. Take the topsheet away from the sponge directly.
   3. Glue the sponge again.
   4. Let the sponge dry.
   5. When dry, put the topsheet on to the sponge gently.

An alternative way to do this is to only put glue on the sponge, let the sponge dry and put the topsheet gently on to the sponge. The gluing will not be as good as in the first case but you can easily take them apart and glue the sponge again and put them together. The second time it will stick better

 :o

I must admit that I was surprised that I my negative Karma wasn't increased ;) To be honest, the tips are copied from japsko, and I have only tried it on once my self, but I found it worked out pretty good, how ever, it is much easier to do this with pips out rubbers. With inverted rubbers, it is very importent to get the "connection" right so you don't get any air in between the rubber and the sponge. Well, this is obviously important with pips out rubbers as well, but it is a lot easier with them, as it is to plain surfaces that you glue together. My suggestion is, try to "roll" on the rubber, with a gentle pressure to make sure you avoid getting some ait bubbles in it, as this will mess it up and create an awkward feeling.

Good luck!

I have put it together, and the rubber's GREAT!

Here was my method for gluing it up using Copydex:

1. Put a layer of glue on the sponge and let it dry for about 10 minutes.
2. Put a layer of glue on the plastic the topsheet came with.
3. Put the pimples face down into the glue, and rolled down it ever so slightly with a round container to get the glue on all the pimples.
4. Once sure that the pimples all have glue on them, I did the hardest part in my opinion, which was lining up the flimsy topsheet with the bottom of the sponge and lying it down on there.
5. I then used that same round container to roll everywhere on the sponge.
6. I then put a fairly light book on it, and left it to dry for hours.
