Hurricane Series of blades
« on: July 12, 2009, 02:49:12 AM »
I notice that a friend is using a Hurricane King with Palio CJ8000 and Sriver EL and I was wondering if anyone on the forum has used any of the Hurricane Series blades and what their impressions of those blades were.

Hurricane King and Hao are top notch blades.

The general Hurricane series however - is a whole other matter. QC from DHS for those blades are incredibly lax. I personally have owned the H-LG and the Nittaku version H-WL. The difference between the quality of those 2 blades was incredible, it was as if one had been slapped together and one had been carefully crafted by a master blademaker.

Ultimately though - the DHS blades are based upon Stiga's range of all wood blades. Think Offensive Classic, CR WRB. clipper etc etc. So they play fairly similar but tend to have more of a whippy effect through loops, drives and smashes (needed to get the extra power out of those heavy tacky chinese rubbers).

Thanks Wiz

Just out of curiosity, was it the Nittaku H-WL that was built like it was crafted by a master blademaker? or the H-LG?

Yeah I should clarified that in my last post.

The Nittaku H-WL is the one that is crafted by a master blademaker. The H-LG was the one that looked slapped together.

However - iirc, you can get Nittaku versions of the H-LG and it's pretty much the same $$$$$.

Or you can splurge on the newer H King or H Hao 656 series that's just come out if u're interested.

I've used a HWL, HH, HWH and a Hurricane Classic No.2

Best by far was the HWL. Thick springy 5ply. The HH was quite nice; OC with koto outers; better control and speed than the OC.  HWH was a dissapointment. The classic No.2 was almost like a thinner, 5-ply clipper.
