Introduction time!
« on: July 10, 2009, 10:00:59 AM »
Yes, I think it is about time we have a brief introduction here, al though a lot of us already "know" each other.

Me, I've been around forum for ages and simple can not stop posting on them.

I've been playing srious TT (more or less serious) since late -05 early -06 but previous to that, I had played basement TT since childhood. Also, being from Sweden, we did have TT included in our athletics  during school.

I'm born in 1975, so I started to late to become something to count with, but seeing at the national competition, I probably wouldn't have made it big any way :o

I would rate my self as either advanced beginner or intermediate. I think I've got a pretty good view on the game and the tactics used, fairly accurate when it comes to technique issues but when it comes to equipment, I'm not as technical in my approach as some others might be.

My game is based on deception, that is why I use Dawei Wavestone blade, which gives me plenty of power, a speed glue effect (SG) rubber on the fh and anti on the bh. This gives me the ability to manipulate the speed as well as the spin on the ball, with out losing to much control. I'm a natural defender but trying to work my way back up to the table. Use my anti to set up points, not to win points from it's effect alone.

I've got a whicked sense of humour and if you feel insulted by my posts, read it again as it is most likely a joke. If you still feel insulted, look back at your own posts and try to understand what you did wrong since I decided to insult you ;)

I'll be next  ;D.
Born in Greece, 1964 migrated to Australia when I was 9 months old. Have never been back. Have been to Malta twice and travelled all over Australia.

I currently live in Sunbury Victoria Australia. And intend to have this as my final resting place. Sunbury is about a 40 min drive into the city where we play our major pennant. So my drive is not that small either.

I started playing Table Tennis when I attended Tech School - Crappy bats, and being the youngest always got the bottom of the barrel. I wasnt much of a sportsperson in my early days, but soon found that sport was fun and excelled in most sports. My parents soon bought a table for home, and jammed it into our formal Dinning room. We had about 2 feet between the table and the walls. I suppose that the reason why I tend to crowd the table. I played at home against my parents and brother.

I then went on and played Tennis untill I turned 21, progressing to A grade. This is when I started my own business and have been there since.
When I built my house 11 years ago, I had a table tennis table in an upper floor in my Shed. My next door neighbor asked if I played, and we had a few games. After beating him, he told me that there was a club in our town, so we made out for the seasons testing. I was placed as the bottom player in the A grade, and he was placed in the A reserve.

Well this is where it all begun. I was hooked - never to be released. with every week that i played I wanted more, wasnt happy losing and strived to be the best. it took me at least 6 years before I could claim to be the best. My freind and I are the only ones to ever get through a season without a single defeat.

I get coached at least once a week, play 2 pennant per week, and traine with supachop every Monday or Tuesday. So its quite a bit of Table Tennis.

Just recently I had an accident when training and tore my ACL. I continued to play with a hinged knee brace untill I ended up on crutches.  After finally having the Knee Reco, I waiting just 2.5 months before restarting A grade competition. Although I have to say my fitness levels are quite low.

My Forum manners are quite straight forward. I say it as I see it. Not always right, but at least honest & unbiased. I have even had some manufacturers tell me off for speaking my mind. If I make a comment please dont take offence, its just my opinion, and your job to convince me otherwise.

I welcome all new members with open arms, and thank all loyal standing members for their support in the Past and the future. This forum has been placed here for you. Yes, its not an advertising medium for our shop, its a medium to bring table tennis fanatics together to discuss what we love the most, and hofefully pass info onto each other.

Hope I haven't bored you all  :-X

Do you live anywhere near Mooroolbark Rob? My sister in-law has just got married to an Ausiie and lives there, some family have already been down to visit, we may come next year if things work out, so you may have to get yr money out when I play Supachop ;)

Biggy, I missed your introduction here...

The discussion about who beats who should be kept to the forum ranking thread. If Supachop is up there with Dtop, I think it will be a  great game to watch if you ever get together.

I trid to convince my woman that we should have a weekend in London, so I possibly could meet up with some of you, but as soon as she found out I wanted to bring my bat along, the suggestion of a trip was turned down :'(

Hi guys,

My name is Chris. I live in Sydney, Australia. Born in 1980 in Philippines, lived in America for awhile before migrating to Australia in the 80's.

I enjoy playing table tennis, it has been a big part of not only my life but also my families. I can remember when I was a young kid going to watch tt with my Uncles and brothers.

I play long pimples now for around 5 years, and recently play with short pimples on the FH.
I play mainly for fun and fitness, it's pretty usually for me to play 6 days a week for 4 hours a day, sometimes even twice a day. I do play competitions as well, and currently play in "A" division here in Sydney, which my ranking is always bang smack in the middle.

I used to play with double inverted, but I had a accident and broke my right hand/ tt hand. When it healed up I found my old setup of bty S.C and f1 and H3 was just to heavy and made my hand sore. I found lp's reduced the total weight of the racket, but was not able to continue the same style of an attacker. My game had slowly evolved over the past few years and I find myself becoming defensive and have adapted really well to the lp.
I like the layout of this forum, and have known some of you guys for ages.
Foruming is good, as I find a lot of info on equipment. :D

I'm William, Der_Echte on most forums and BH-Man on MyTT. I've only been around TT for 3 years, with over 2 of them being around Army camp rec centers in Iraq. I have been in a local that is difficult to meet others and play. I usually drive an hour to meet a few LP players near my level once a week if I am lucky. I attribute my recent improvement to help from the TT forums. You can post vids and get help and critisims in a number of ways, both friendly and otherwise. I am middle to low upper intermediate level (low USATT 1600ish) and play as an attacker on my serve and an allround player receiving serve. I use a medium fast blade and a slow FH/fast BH Chinese rubber. I have a thousand interests that range from computer harware/software/networks to economics/corperate/personal finance/investing to languages to cookin/baking to travel to whatever. I am a still in the military as a vehicle maintanence supervisor and will likely be on the move soon. I am almost Rob's age. TT forums are great and I wonder what we all would have done a decade or two ago without them.

Hi MM, you might also know me as Wiggy63 or Dark horse, from other forums, This one is really well presented.

I've been playing TT 30 odd years and loved every minute of it, at my best I played successfully in the highest standard possible in My Country (England) I play 1 level below that now and coach on a semi pro basis, I have currently got 10 pupils on my books and I coach on a one to one basis. I play with a Stiga allround classic blade with 2.1mm tenergy both wings and I am a two winged looper. I'm afraid I've made a bit of a name for myself around the forums as a know it all bigot, but its true, I do know it all  its just that I'm not always right  anyway the guys round here know to take some of my stuff with a pinch of salt, hopefully there is some useful stuff in there somewhere. BTW I'm quite good on technical TT stuff and tactics but absolute rubbish when it comes to equipment, as I only care about what I play with.

Hi Big Ears,

Thanks for the welcome. I know you as Dh, and also vist DTTW. Wiggy is a much better version of youself ;), I like watching your video's and I have no doubt in my mind you should be up there in the forum rankings.
The community here is very close which I like, when it becomes big, everything becomes so impersonal.

Welcome Monkey and Sunflex to THIS forum. As Der said, you don't think about welcoming guys like you who we've known for so long. Sunflex, tell me more about how the Outlaw goes on the Gergely. I like Roxon 450 on it. You were using Boost TP on it weren't you? How does Outlaw compare to that?

Outlaw goes pretty well on the gergely, it has great power when smashing and good feel when blocking. Compared to Boost TP it feels softer and a little less direct. I guess the Speed is similar to a sheet of Boost TP max. The control is excellent too, pushes and dropshots are no problem. I still need to find how well it loops, when I tried it was way too humid. I can say this rubber is not consistent when it's very humid, because balls slip off the rubber when looping, I didn't really have this problem with Boost TP. .

Hi i'm priior.. born in 1973 (so.. definitely not the oldest here! :P).. i live in montreal, canada.

Last year I had a baby (thru my female partner;) and am expecting another one in march. (hopefully the last one ;)

needless to say my playtime has been reduced by quite a bit.. as have my forum visit times!!

I play with a Joola Power (fairly flexible), w/impulse speed on both sides. although am considered alround.. i strive to become an attacker. My biggest issue is performing at competitions as well as i perform in practice games. It's my goal this year to crush the little shits at the competitions and put 30something yr olds on the map again!

(hi everyone!!! missed u guys!)

(btw im starting to outgrow the impulse speeds.. and am seriously considering movign to either nimbus sound or roxon 330!)

Welcome Back & Congrats on the birth of your child Prior - And Wow another one on the way, you have been a busy boy. Hope you like the look of the new Forum.

The Roxon 330 has the same sponge as the Impuls Speed but it has the Grippy Roxon Topsheet. The Hexer is slower than Roxon but much grippier with more touch and feel. The initial response from Hexer has been fantastic, although I must say, that I still prefer the Roxon 450. (But I'm the Odd one out)

Probably a bit late after joining to introduce myself, but I'll do it anyway I suppose.

My name is Vincent (Vinnie), I'm 14 years old, and I started playing in January/Feburary of this year. I am from Northern NSW, Australia, and I have lived here all my life. I play twice a week at the Lismore Workers Table Tennis Club. I played someone who thought I had a bit of potential, so he gave me my Donic Opticon RS, which I am eternally grateful for. I also have a table at home which I play on with my brother and mum. I don't get coached, but there are coaches at the club, and they occasionally coach me, so it's not like anything too bad is going to happen to my game with an occasional eye on me.

I started out as a OFF player, mainly trying to win points with speed and getting through their defenses, but after developing a love of the technical side of the game, I am trying to think of myself as more of between a ALL and OFF player, trying to incorportate many different shots into my game. My arsenal includes the FH drive, loop, chop, push, smash, and the same things on my BH, though my FH is lots better.

Apparently I am ready to play comp, though I have decided not to this year due to the lateness that I would be getting back home, potentially affecting my school work.

Obviously, I am a student, so that cuts back on a lot of TT, but I grit my teeth a bear it.

I got involved with DTTW because when I got into Table Tennis, I wanted a place to try and find out as much about the sport as I could. Now I am a member of 3 different forums, and I have learnt heaps!

*EDIT: 200 posts.
I am addicted to edge tape.

Been playing for: 10 months (7 at a club)

Keep up the enthusiasm Vinnie, you are learning loads from these forums. If its possible, you would gain skill more quickly if you could play at a club more than twice a week, when I was your age, I played every day.

Hi all,
I'm 18 years old, been playing since I was 12. Played mostly in the NSTTA (a small club in Essendon).
Playing in Section 1 currently after winning a final in all of the below sections. Filled in at Coburg & Sunshine last year for a couple of mates who plays in our comp & ended up winning A3 at Sunshine after filling-in for last half of season.

Trying to improve my game to attack more, as used to be a total defender, but am starting to attack a bit more this season.

Hi all :)
Just joined this forum after reading through numerous threads...and thought, yep, these guys are nearly as kooky as me!! :P

I'm 45 years young and really enjoying my table tennis these days. I played as a teen in Horsham (western vic) and actually grew up in the same small country town as the famous Teppers (Murtoa). My playing days paused for a couple of decades while I got married, had a family and started a very demanding small mechanics business. Marriage problems and a change of towns eventually allowed me to get back into old passions and now I play twice a week (Shepparton and Sunbury) and am getting into the Veterans scene as well.
I played a few vets tournaments this year (Croydon, Bendigo, Ballarat and Mornington)...as well as tournaments at Albury and Yarrawonga. I haven't had much success, but I'm not worried about that....just really enjoy pushing boundries and as long as I feel I've played well, I'm happy :)
My best results have been winning division 4 at Croydon and then more recently runner-up in div 3 at Mornington.....so look out guys, I'm on the improve!!! hehehe
Playing at Sunbury is most enjoyable (and no Rob...I don't think I've met you yet!?). You guys have great depth compared to Shepp and a huge range of styles that I'm not accustom to...so I find myself playing 5 setters even against no. 3's and players ranked below me able to beat me coz I simply don't know how to play them.
Oh well, still climbing that steep learning curve!!
Cheers,
Chris

Der_Echte is right, this is beginning to look like a retirement home with all the oldies we have now :D This is coming from one of the younger members here, 34 years young. Vinnie is obviously younger, but he's not really a member, more of a hang-around ;)

I must admit, I have no idea what level you are talking about, but you seem to know the most important thing, and that is to have fun and enjoy the game.

Thanx guys for the warm welcome....:)

I'll just put my walking frame and arthritis medication in the corner and make myself at home shall i? lol
(That's only half a joke coz I do have a dodgy arthritic hip and come home pretty sore some nights!!!!)

Speedplay, as I have gathered from some reading on here....it is VERY hard to judge playing standards of someone without actually playing them!! I haven't met or played anyone on here that I know of...but it will probably happen at some stage. I guess the local Victorian guys will have some idea if I say I have a TTV point rating of 944 at the moment. Maybe Level D on your forum ranking????
Big Ears...yes, seems like a good forum! I'm new to table tennis forums but have been involved on ebay forums a few years ago when I made my living selling on there....and also now I'm a "super poster" on an Antique Bottle Collectors forum (another passion of mine!!). Forums can certainly get nasty/messy, but if you keep the right frame of mind and don't get too involved in the politics...they are a wealth of information and a brilliant networking tool, not to mention a chance of making some great mates :)
Ok, I'm off to Frankston to see my middle daughter in a dance concert today! Have a good weekend all  :)
Cheers,
Chris
