Best match for Stradivarius?
« on: November 12, 2007, 01:38:48 PM »
Hey, I love the Strad very much, but I'm playing with 2008 XP Super Power for goodness sakes.  I got a quick ?.  What do you guy's suppose is the best match for the Strad?  I was thinking of a tensor rubber, I am not really thinking that the Omega's are my type, too hard.  I am thinking of possibly the Yanus DF (not thrilled about 2.0 mm and not a tensor), Plasma Women, or the Impuls Speed.  Does anyone else have any suggestions besides possibly Sriver FX from Silver...heh.  Rob what have you expirienced plays the best on the Strad thus far?

what sponge degree do you normally play with and do you glue? If you get a tensor then get one slightly softer than your normal rubber hardness

When I play the tacky chinese rubbers obviously they are much harder, but  with non tacky jap/euro rubbers I prefer a much softer rubber.  I have tried a good handful of setups at the club from time to time.  The Donic F's and JP Softs have been pretty good.  Alas I have played none of these on the Strad.  I really don't like EJ'ing so I just want to get two rubbers right and be done for awhile.  By the way with these tensors can you soften them by priming them a bit with regular glue, or does that kill their effect?

you don't need to soften them just buy the right one,I think they would play very good on the strad.
Impuls speed is a bit softer than sriver fx not tried the others you mentioned

Skippy, for god's sake & your own - dont try and soften those tensor type rubbers, just buy the ones that suit your game. I did once try to speedglue a Plasma, and it never felt the same again. Good way to ruin them.

Infact since I've been using the new water based glue from Xiom, the Combo feels better than when I used Regular VOC based glue. And it sticks better, no more edges coming unstuck.

I was just asking.  I haven't had a tensor rubber before, and I don't have any water based glues.  I just want to get two rubbers that will match up with the Strad, and call it good.  Maybe stop shopping for a year or so.....hehe.  Then I can save up for a Robot and Table.  I can't save up for a robot and table if I'm getting a new blade, and rubbers every three months.  I'll have to adjust to whatever I get.  I might as well get something that's high performance, low maintainence, durable, and reletively affordable.  Maybe the Donics would be a good match for the Strad.  I'll be curious to hear about those soon.  What's their ETA?  I sure like the idea of the Impuls Speed as I heard it's pretty durable stuff.  Although Rob said it wasn't a strong match for the Strad.....sigh.  When will it end?

I am highly considering FH: Black Max Leverage, and BH: Red Yanus DF.  It will be about a month before I can purchase, but it should be good to go next month.  I would guess this combo would perform pretty well with the Strad.  Whatcha think Rob?

I think, that the Max Leverage will be a good option, I've used it and gee can it produce some spin. Its the Yanus's Big Brother. Its sponge is a little harder (42.5) than the Yanus as well.

Believe me when I say, that the Yanus is a defenders rubber on Steriods.

I do believe you.  Which is why I'm highly considering it.  My backhand is not really strong enough to be super offensive, but I am always hopeful.  From time to time I have a really great backhand day followed by a few bad days.  Well, I want to play a good controlled rubber on the backhand with plenty of potential to become an offensive weapon for when my backhand comes around.

If you ever get bored give that combo a try on the  Strad.

remember there's a "getting used to" curve with the tensor rubbers.. the first week they will feel odd.. but after a few weeks, once u get a feel of the throw of the rubbers then they start shining.

I agree with that 100%,I used a EGP 2 times and sold it then I got an impuls speed and used 2 times and put it up for sale and nobody wanted to buy it,so I tried it in practice about 6 times and it grew on me,I really love it now

Spot on Priior, I will never go back to normal or speedglued rubbers.

In Fact, Vinnie had a hit with my bat last night and could not believe that it wasn't speed glued.
