Tenergy 05
« on: June 21, 2009, 06:38:09 PM »
A teammate of mine suggested "I think you should try Tenergy 05, as it would suit your game", a few months ago. So far I've resisted the temptation on the grounds of cost and because Jupiter is a rubber that I can play a fairly consistent game with on the Clipper Wood and costs only £7.50 per sheet of Ebay.

Yesterday at coaching I got to play with 2.1mm Tenergy 05 on a Petr Korbel for about 15 minutes. The Petr korbel vibrated more than the blades i usually use and my opening 5 or 6 backhand loops missed the table, going long. I adjusted the blade angle to compensate and my backhand loops started landing, very consistently and accurately placement wise too.

Granted I only had 15 minutes and as part of a backhand looping exercise with another left hander, not enough to analyse it's good and bad points over a longer period and in game situations; but i liked the way it played on the Petr Korbel, it felt natural.

What do you think of this rubber?

Overpriced >:D

To be honest, I haven't tried it, but so far, I don't think I've ever read a bad review of the Tenergy's, so if you can afford to splash out the cash on it, then you will probably be happy with what you get.

If you do get it, avoid using VOC glue as this supposedly ruins the rubber immediately.

Very Good grip, As good as Roxon. Its fast for a 2.1mm, but not as fast as Roxon Max. When I played with it, it was OK, but not enough feeling.
Definetely good for hard loopers or hitters. I prefer the Tenergy 64. It is Overpriced, Peter I'm sure that you could find it at a more reasonable price at another store closer to you.

T05 is the only Tenergy I have and I used it for about half a season or so and really liked the spin it provided. Speed was good, but as Rob said I don't think its a fast as Roxon 450 even in the 2mm I have (although I do have it on a bit slower blade - must try it on my Gergely at some time). I'd compare the feel to be closer to Gambler Outlaw than the Roxon though, as the Roxon is much softer. I believe Tenergy will last much longer than most the rubbers being compared to it though, which may give some justification to its price. If I were you Peter, I would try Outlaw before buying Tenergy. You can probably get 3 sheets for the same price abnd I doubt you'll be disappointed with Outlaw.  Personally I find I get almost as much spin with Outlaw, more speed, and it blocks with more comfort and consistency. In fact I would say that looping with Outlaw doesn't require quite the precision in stroke that T05 does. It can be pretty spiteful if you slip up. I've had balls that I've not looped well that other rubbers would forgive and still send over, but T05 sends the ball rolling along the table into the net.

One of my Texas LP friends stuck 05 and 25 on one of his Nittaku OFF blades. I used it for ten hits. It was a much lighter setup than I use, but seven of my first ten loops against bottomspin landed with extreme spin. The other three hit the top of the net and flew out. 05 didn't take any adjustment for me, 25 felt like a fail. I have not, and probably will not buy any version of Tenergy until it falls into the Sriver range. Since that won't happen, not big loss for me. Venus, 999 and other Chinese rubbers do very well for their price.

Der if you like Venus, you will LOVE Outlaw. If you felt ok with Tenergy, you will feel like Outlaw was made just for you. Its price is way less than Sriver, so no reason not to try it. ;)

Venus is not factory tuned, has a softer sponge, and feels a little grippier. Players like your self could benifit from the extra control that would be gained using Venus. Outlaw is definetely a fast rubber.

I agree with Rob, Vincent. I think you should forget about fast rubbers like Outlaw and Tenergy for the time being. Maybe in a year or two when you have your control really deeply set in your game you would benefit from more speed.

More and more, it sounds like Outlaw will become my BH rubber. I like firm/fast rubbers on BH. I will find out in 2 hours when my first event starts up.

I love when people look back in retrospect, how do you guys feel 4 or more months later?  Do you still feel the same or did you move onto outlaw?

I still feel the same about Tenergy, it is still over priced, but I certainly haven't turned back to Outlaw  Outlaw is, according to me, the most hyped rubber ever, and, what's worse, it was hyped for no reason. Utterly useless rubber, for me. All speed and no spin!

Please don't say that about outlaw!  I still have 3 more sheets of it in my TT suitcase that I got from Hong KOng.  I also fell for the hype, I mean it is a great rubber for a certain style, but for me it is just another fast long throw rubber without the spin needed to keep the ball curling down at the end.

Speed Play - out of interest, at what price would you buy Tenergy?

If I could get it at the same price as I get the Roxon (which I can get from roughly 45AUD) I might give it a try, but the problem is, I know I can get the Roxon at this price, so even if there was a big sale for Tenergy at this price, I would be hesitant to buy it, cause when I wanted to replace it, it might be back to it's full retail price again.

But, if I knew I could have constant access to it at the same price as Roxon 450, I would be very tempted to try it out.

The thing that bugs me is that I really want to try it, all because of the marketing made by BTY! And I hate this, cause this shows that the money BTY splashes on marketing is well spent, since even a notorious BTY reject like me is tempted to try to T 05!

As for the Outlaw, I think I still have 2 new sheets of it, might have sold one (keeping my fingers crossed that it is so!) cause to me, it almost felt like a SP rubber.

Outlaw was spinny enough as far as I was concerned. Not quite in the Tenergy league, but there was enough on serves to cause people problems and if you hit the ball hard then there was plenty to make the ball dip also. I would still be using it now if it didn't keep falling apart.
I'll let you know in a few weeks if I will be getting more Tenergy (05). I've had mine about 4 weeks, it looks a little scuffed (red worse than black), but it still plays very well. Other rubbers I've had which looked like my red sheet would be long gone by now, but we'll have to wait and see.

A few months back, Outlaw became my Fh rubber. Good serves, good speed, good spin. When I have to use a backup bat, my serves are way different and I cry for Outlaw on TBS. I have zero problem getting my powerloops to dip from any distance with Outlaw. Bad point of course about outlaw is that it chips around the edges and always seems to make a one cm break-off along the side of the blade where I seem to miss center. Couldn't really get much more than 4-6 weeks of daily use from Outlaw. I would not imagine T05 lasting me 6 months of daily use, maybe 3 tops. I would buy T05 if it dropped to around USD $35 a sheet. T05 is a better rubber than Outlaw in just about every aspect, but I refuse to become a T05 addict - the cost is simply too much. Summer is coming up here in Korea along with the humidity. That might make me consider switching the FH to T05 on the TBS for a spell as Outlaw is inconsistant in humidity.

the humidity in Brisbane has been insane, weve had rain everyday for weeks it seems.  and the vega pro really proved to be much more prone to the humidity.

Its like I can wipe my tenergy with the driest part of my shirt and it will be pretty perfectly dry but the vega pro, man its like so smooth and have to like keep wiping and wiping and it just wont get a feeling of dry grip.

Very Good grip, As good as Roxon.

IMO, T05 has far more grip than Roxon.

Thats a Personell Opinion. I am always asked what I'm using - especially when the oppenent miss reads the spin or Block of the Table.

To me more spin is not that important anyway, its Speed to Spin ratio, and Roxon has suited my style of game fine, but I think its time to change to a harder Sponged rubber - So here comes Hexer+, when it finally arrives. I'm going to persist with it until I get it right.

Why not Roxon 500? Cause, the Hexer played really different compared to Roxon, so I'm guessing that the Hexer+ also will play different compared to Roxon.

No Rob, I am sure that Roxon has its benefits, I know because you kindly sent me a sheet to try, but it does not have the spin characteristics of Tenergy 05, Roxon plays similar to Joola Express rubbers and Thibar Nimbus, but it does not play the same as Tenergy, Tenergy is far far higher throw. At this time in rubber technology, Butterfly has the edge, I'm sure it will change, but I'm sorry, they do. The price stinks though.

My friend is ranked 3rd in Australia for doubles and he uses and loves Tenergy! I'm not sure if he uses 05 but whatever he is he loves it and he always tells me how great it is. In my opinion its overpriced but if my friend is right then it might just be really good

Dan is getting better, He recently got tenergy off me and catapult on a timo boll spark.  He broke my heart when he bought the vega pro.

I tried it first on the the timo boll spark - sensational on that, and then after a few weeks He ripped the vega off and put his tenergy 05 back on, saying how much better the tenergy 05 is.

Level wise a few hundred point lower I would say, but he can get some games off me.

I would love to do a review of roxon on my backhand - if anyone would like to send me up a sheet?  If I love it Rob, I will be your loyal customer!
