Gambler Outlaw!
« on: June 13, 2009, 05:08:51 PM »
Rob,

I've read a lot about good reviews about this rubber, some people even claims it is up there with the praised Tenergy!

Lately, I have heard some bad things though, such as it's durability and it being very fragile. Anything you know about?

Also, I will probably order some at the start of next season, no need to order them now as I can't play with them :-[ But! Seeing how well they are received by the crowd, do you think they will raise in price? Or, will the stock be sold out once I'm ready to order?

Martin, I think that durability is not an issue. Infact I dont think it chips at all - JKC can exagerate on this, as he's using it as his primary setup.

I lent a sheet to one of the top Juniors, and he replaced his Bryce Speed FX with it. Amazing. Personally I acually play more consistent with it, but just dont have the feeling. Dont worry about stocks, our first lot ran out within the first 2 weeks, and we replenished with a large consignment within the following week. Its now available in 2.0mm & 2.2mm.

I tend to kill rubbers quicker than most due to my relentless heavy looping. Durability is probably better than average with Outlaw. Probably not as good as the reports I have heard of Tenergy from players I trust. The rubber will chip away at the edges a little if you are prone to hit the edge of the table, but I haven't yet managed to split one when looping the ball only - something I used to do regularly in the old days with far more expensive Stiga and Joola rubbers. The rubber surface may start to get a few ball marks and eventually a dull looking patch where you hit the ball more frequently (black rubber seem worse for this), but it doesn't seem to affect performance too much. I did manage to kill an old sheet by breaking some pimples behind the topsheet and causing a bubble, but I suspect 99.9% of players put less lateral stress on the rubber than I do so I won't be an issue for most players. Performance wise, it isn't quite Tenergy Speedplay, but I would say that we are 90% of the way there and at 1/3 of the price then we can't really grumble can we. It does have less feeling than some of the more expensive rubbers with similar performance, but if you can live with that then there are big savings to be made.

I actually prefer Outlaw over Tenergy but for one thing. I don't find Outlaw quite as spinny on serves. Its easier to control in general play and it blocks and counters better than Tenergy IMO. Its hard to say its faster than Tenergy as I have it on a faster blade (Joola R1) than I have T05 on (Donic Enforce). If price wasn't a factor I might go for Tenergy just because the spinnier my serves the easier it can be to pick up points. However, with the price taken in consideration, Outlaw beats out Tenergy and all the Tensors too. I favour Andro Roxon 450 over Outlaw without price considered as well, but once again Outlaw wins with the price factor as R450 doesn't provide so much more to justify double the price.

Looks like it is a done deal, i will get some Outlaw to try out!

Would never dream about getting Tenergy as I simple don't buy rubbers at that price. The Platin I have now is probably the most expensive rubber I have ever bought, and if the Outlaw comes anywhere near it when it comes to playing, the price will make me favour the Outlaw.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Rob

What thickness of outlaw do you use on your Powerplay Senso V1? as I'm thinking of trying it.

Pete, so far I've only used the 2.2mm. Its very controllable and packs a wollop. If you normally prefer 2mm, I'd go with that, but if you have ever found a chinese rubber in Max to be controllable, Outlaw 2.2 will seem like 2mm anyway, only it will still have more control. At least that's how I've found it on the Joola R1 anyway. Besides, its cheap enough to buy a sheet of each and work out which you like best.
