Japenese Penholder Blades
« on: April 22, 2009, 06:11:42 PM »
I have been asked many times about the Japanese Penholder blades, and whether its possible to place a rubber on the Backhand side of the Blade.

This all depends on whether the blade is Factory Blacked (this is the technical term for the black coating on the reverse side of the blade). The other problem that exists is the Cork finger place holder that is glued on the blade.

Have a look at the pictures below: As you can see from the image of the back of the blade -> the curved cork section would be a real hindrance to applying a rubber.

For me there are two ways :
1. sand off the black part to reveal the wood (I guess this is necessary to make it legal), then take off the curved part of the cork (the distance to be left towards the handle is up to you), in this way the brand and type of the rubber will still be there (I guess this is also necessary to make it legal).
2. Buy a J-pen twiddler, where the forehand side is exactly the same with the backhand side (example : Violin J-RH or Violin-PH).
Nittaku Cho Tokusen A with Red F1.
