For anyone who has been on the far side of the moon for a couple of days, here is the clip.

Sorry for posting it everywhere, just being the proud dad I suppose.

What about a 'Fred sponsored by Affordable Table Tennis' sign to cover up the 'Tesco' sign for next months vid Rob.

Nice played JKC, but I noticed that you didn't move him around much, once you did he started to miss a ouple of shots. So for the next match I suggest you alter were you aim for, perhaps throw in some back spin every now and then and I'm sure you will be able to beat him, keep up the hard work!

*Wait a minute, you were looking for coaching advice how to beat this talented kid, right*

Nice vid and nice to see a family tradition in the making. When you become the political party boss, you will have this as a historical piece of the next nation's leader.

What I want to know is how the heck did you get the facility all ot yourself ???!!!   :!:

You serious Rob? Because he does need a new bat at the moment. His cut down Tube Alu is a little small now he has developed his shots and gained a little more strength.

This TT centre is just around the corner from me and it is only really used in the evenings. I pay a one-off fee for the year and you can use it whenever you want without extra charge. If you go before about 7 in the evening you are normally the only people there. Weekends are pretty clear too and as a teacher I can use it in the hols. I just need to get my son good enough so I can get some proper practice with him now.  ;)

When he get's tall enough to hit backhands, he's going to be good.  Have you noticed an improvement in your own game since practicing with him?

You know I am jealous, because I gotta go so far to have even a half-ass hit in a rec-center/people walking through your court environment. I'm just jealous of anyone who can train and have an acceptable facility to do so, that's all. Eventually, I will be somewhere else and my TT training situation will improve. i might have to build a table to put inside my trailer over there to practice serves, the rec tent will probably be filled with rec player wannbe jokers.

Way to go in interesting your family.

I haven't noticed any improvement in my play personally, just an improvement in the amount of time I am allowed out to play. Time with Fred doesn't count in my weekly allowance.

Hey JKC, Fred's about 5 or 6 yeah?
Once he gets tall enough make sure you force him to use more forearm. Once he gets that, his will have excellent basic structure and will (hopefully) one day be a top player!
Congrats! Can he sign my rackets when he turns pro?

Hmmmmm maybe you can teach Fred how to be a coach and have him coach Dad one night a week as well, after he coaches you you can both then have a hit and work on Dads weaknesses ;)

I have some old stuff on video, but when my camera converts it to digital it does a really crap job. I will take my digital camera to a practice (Friday or Sunday) and see if I can get a suitable opponent to hit with. (Then I will see how good it looks and decide whether it is worth posting.)

Come on JKC, you are not some ate-up hot garbage rec player. You are certainly legit (way more than I am) and any current videos you can produce will assuredly be of value to the forum members.

Haven't managed to get myself on vid yet, the club was a little barren last night, I will try again tomorrow.
Fred's new bat arrived today, so thanks to PPRob and AffordableTT. Took about a week I think, quicker than I expected. We haven't had time to let him have a hit with it yet, but we will tomorrow. Here is a photo of him posing with it though and also a photo of my bat besides the new one so anyone who is interested can see where I cut mine down. My T-4 was once that shape too. Notice lots of the wood near the handle has been taken away on my bat. Sorry it is the backhand side, but the other picture was a little blurry.

JKC that must make your blade/rubber combo really light, does it make the blade head heavy though? as it seems all the wood was taken from the bottom corners.
Btw that's real nice of Rob to do that for the lad

It is a lot lighter than it otherwise would be especially with the Chinese Rubbers. The strange thing about taking wood from the bottom of the bat is that it does cause the centre of gravity to move further away from the handle, but the effect of reducing the total weight has more effect on the way it plays. We rotate the bat around our wrist or our elbow when playing a shot and the angular momentum is less due to the reduced weight (at a centre of gravity slightly further from the fulcrum) than it would be with a heavier bat (and a centre of gravity slightly closer to the fulcrum).
In simple terms, when playing a wristy type shot (which I do a lot), I would still prefer my shape blade over a conventional one as we don't rotate the blade around its centre of mass anyway. The turning force around the wrist (or elbow) would still be less overall with my blade due to the decrease in weight.

Not just any Chinese rubber.  SP is one of the heaviest there is.  There are few heavier than SP out there that's for sure.

Just as a matter of interest, have you weight both those setups. Just to see the differance.

Btw that's real nice of Rob to do that for the lad

It sure is, but don't know if any of you other guys have noticed, but Rob is a real nice person when it comes to handing out gifts. Unfortunately, this have given him a lot of crap on other forum were it's claimed that he is buying his friends. Don't know if its members who haven't been given any stuff that are jealous or if its other dealers who fears the competition, but I know that I considered Rob to be a close Forum friend even before he did give me some free stuff. Actually, coming to think about it, Rob has been given me more then one complete set up... I've got the Wavestone blade (The most precious gift I've got, really like that blade! Then he has given me the 388D-1 and the Inspirit and...  So yes, Rob is a very nice guy but I would consider him to be a nice guy even without the gifts he's been given away to me and other members!

That was real cool of Rob to do that. I bet Shaggy, I mean Fred, was simply thrilled.

Rob lived up to his promise of hooking up the forum members with Quattro at a neat pice and I got my stuff in a touch over a week all in great shape.
(The all-wood N-2 with Quattro and Venus has become my primary outfit.)
Yeah, also I was the Joker who got a Saviga with the secret code number for the 2nd contest.

I do not feel Rob "buys" friends. Being generous is cool, though. If I had a lot more assets and income than I got now, I would enjoy being generous more frequently.

Hey JKC,

With the support around the handle of the blade being cut down so much.  I have to  wonder if that blade is still an OFF+ rated blade.  It would seem to me that some of it's structural integrity would be comprimised as it pertains to it's speed rating.  What do you think about that?  I would think that would bring it down to at the least a low OFF+, or a High OFF.
