JKC a unique style I think?
« on: November 10, 2008, 09:59:48 AM »
By popular demand here is a vid of me practicing tonight. I am the one in the stripey shirt who walks around the court swinging his arm a lot.

<a href="http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fggacT5qoXo" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fggacT5qoXo</a>

My mate was struggling a lot with his rubbers and a lack of practice, so I have cut out a lot of service winners etc.

I just realized it doesn't actually look stripey on the vid, but rest assured it isn't pink, it is red, blue and white stripes.

JKC - you love playing away from the Table. At the centre where we play, the courts just aren't big enough. BTW, whats your ranking at that club, and how many members do you have.

Our club doesn't tend to have rankings, but I would be second on any list. I tend to beat the number one ranked player maybe 25% of the time though and this is increasing all the time.

I'm impressed with your ball sense, I know it isn't easy playing so far away from the table but land so many shots as you did. I play at the same distance, but I tend to chop a lot more then you, even if half of the time, I only lift it back. Looks like you played a top spin game from there, no lethal speed, but an annoying consistency!

Weirdest looking Fh on the planet, but consistent and it looked spinny!

Your bh was marvellous! Power, placement and ability to use it against pretty much any incoming shot, that is impressive!

And yes, I do love the Wavestone blade(s) =) (And almost 10 sheets of Nittaku Best Anti!)

I wouldn't swap my backhand with many I can tell you. As for the forehand, I must have developed some of the strange style before I was coached and the rest is a result of practicing with a chopper too much and having time to play big looping strokes to every ball. Maybe I drop off the table to allow myself to continue playing this stroke against more attacking players. I don't really tend to have much body rotation, but I don't think body rotation would do my back much good either as it can be a bit dodgy at times. Not looking to make major changes to my game at the moment though.

I hope to see these vids once I can get on the "Other" network. This one won't allow me to get to youtube kind of sites. I'm sure I'll see a ton to like.
Can't touch FC Bayern!

JKC,

Thx for the vids,

Your FH is indeed different, but effective I should say. Very hard to tell if you are hitting cross court or going down the line.

Nways, I am actually more interested in knowing how you generate power with your FH,,,???

Cheers,

My power comes from my strength - to speed up my arm after a shortish backswing. And my timing of the shot in general and the timing of my wrist flick. I know people who have better technique who can hit the ball much harder but it is easier to tell where they are putting the next ball. I think the style may be partly due to practicing mostly with a defender always with players worse than myself.

I am much more comfortable putting the ball away with my backhand, and tend to move people around playing consistent loops to the sides until they give me one to put away on that side. If the ball comes high to my forehand, I tend to loop the ball away wide which is often as effective as a FH kill anyway as I usually get pretty good angles.

I have some quite old ones from about 5 years ago on video, but I don't have the technology to transfer these to digital. I am hoping to get over for a knock with Wiggy in a few weeks (when the missus and the kids go on holiday for a week with the mother-in-law), so I should get some good stuff from that and no doubt some good practice matches, but not the real thing.

There is a further practice with Iqbal here, but most of you will surely have seen that elsewhere by now. I was particularly pleased I got the 2 rallies near the end on though (just after 3:20ish).

Another Knock With Iqbal

(I like the way vids are embedded automatically by the way)

Iqbal, played much better in this clip compared to the last one I saw.
The Chinese style rubbers really suit you. I've tried them and can not get the pace out of them, no matter how hard I try.

I take my camera everywhere (TT wise), but sometimes it never makes it out of my bag. I had some fantastic matches in British League last year, and I wish I had pulled it out more. It will certainly be on for that one though.
