Pingpongrob Versus Vinnie
« on: October 30, 2007, 06:55:17 PM »
here's another clip of me playing against my other training partner & former member of this Forum: Vinnie.
You may have seen him in the photo's I posted of our Grandfinal Win last season.

Pingpongrob verses Vinnie

Enjoy, and maybe you will understand how Supachop makes me play like CRAP.

Nice Vid Rob yes Supachop make you look really bad and I am sure he would make a LOT of people look bad.
Vinnie has a pretty good BH and FH and I also like his serves,he flips very well with his FH.

And Normally my backhand is supa consistant, I can loop many balls in a row against SupaChop, But as always under pressure in front of the Camera, I choke.

Very nice video.  Vinnie and I have alot of similarities.  Left handed, good pendullum serve, strong forehand, and typically block to keep in the match with the backhand.  It's crazy how many times you win a point cause the opponent is caught spectating as you block one past your opponent cause they weren't expecting it.

I agree with Skippy. Nice vid. Vinnie got some free points off of nice blocks, but Rob, you got your share of those as well. It almost seemed that fast looping against Vinnie lost you more points than it won, he blocked well and took you off of the offensive or you missed the follow up attack a lot. (I am WAY worse at that) You had a high percentage of winning points when you were able to medium or slow loop, then, he seemed to be off timing or off on the blade angle. You do a nice job of looping topspin and generally staying in the point. What blade and rubbers were you using? I will take Vinnie for a training partner and opponent any day of the week. (Shit, I'd almost take anyone right now, NOBODY plays TT in this state within 100 miles!) I like playing against lefties - my BH becomes more important, especially against serves I attack BH. Plus, Vinnie was impecable in blocking fast loops during your warm-up.

I'm Using the Andro Carbo/Aramid Blade, with Omega 1 2.0mm forehand & Andro Impuls speed 2.0mm on the backhand.

I'm about 60 - 40 against Vinh, depend on how well he glue's up. He has youth on his side. That night I beat him overall, but its always Close.

Vinnie tends to have lot of trouble against those spinny loops, - as most of us do. I have trouble with that Left Handed forehand drive down the line, he get me everytime. Up until about a year ago, Vinnie had improved and was better than me. After losing to a few Youngie's I decided that either I start giving them a hard time, or give up. Guess which option won.

If Vinnie's footwork was as good as his serve I bet he would be quite a bit better.  Another way that he reminds me of me.  He had about 4 or 5 easy ones he just dumped badly, just because he didn't position himself properly for the shot.  I still do that alot when I am not properly focused.  It's like I get a poor jump on every ball when I am not giving my full attention.

Both SupaChop and I played Vinnie last Night.

1st Set Vinnie v Supachop - Vinnie wins 3-0
2nd Set Pingpongrob v SupaChop - pingpongrob wins 3-1
3rd set Vinnie v Supachop - Supachop wins 3-0
4th set Vinnie v Pingpongrob - Vinnie wins 3-2

Supachop was off his game - he can play a lot better.
Vinnie had just placed a new Dawei Saviga max black on his forehand (3 - 5 layers of speedglue), and gee he was giving us a pounding, he played twice as good as in the last video.

Well myself, Played about the same, if not a bit better, starting to get used to my combination now - and I'm super happy.
