VOC Free Glue's
« on: October 30, 2007, 10:34:57 AM »
My sample of the new VOC free water based glue arrived from Xiom Yesterday.

There was 2 items, a blade sealer & a Glue. I've been looking forward to trying them to see how hard they are to use.

Surprise Surprise. Both items are much easier to use than the regular solvent based glues.

The Blade sealer took about 30 seconds to apply, and dried without lifting any of the blade grain. The package states that it should be left 4 hours before sticking rubbers on the blade.

The Glue was easy to use as well, apply a few dob's on the rubber, and use the sponge thats included to spread it around, nice and evenly. Much easier to use than regular glue as well, as it gives more time to evenly spread the glue. Didn't take long to dry either.

The same is done to the blade, allowed to dry as well, then both items are placed together, and rolled.

I tested to see what sort of adhesion resulted. - Very good, no more edges comming away with the slightest touch of the table. The rubber comes of the blade if need be, a little more force is required.

I will post a video on how its done later on tonight.

YATTP seems to have nothing but good things to say about the new VoC free Andro glue.

Is this sealer/glue combo pretty much identical to the Andro one?

I'd say so. Its just that Andro were to scummy to send over some samples. And Andro call theirs "FREE SEAL"  & FREE GLUE. Pretty confusing to me.

mysterious eh.
So the people who have VOC glues are:

Butterfly
Stiga
Donic
Andro
xiom
Falco/Berenger
Joola
Tibhar

We can rule out Donic, Andro, Xiom. Rule out Tibhar as well, since a birdy told me that Tibhar didn't want to make an exclusive dealership.

So we're left with Bty, Stiga, Falco, Joola...

I think you need some forum members to test the effect of the glue Rob, to provide a wide range of feedback and opinion. I would be happy to *test* how the Omega 2 works on the Kinetic CF Carbo Aramid Off, and the Xiom Stradivarius. And maybe I could help *test* how the Impuls Speed and Plasma 430 work with glue and those blades as well...  ;)  :D

The glue looks nice and easy to apply, though I wonder how long the applicator sponge will last until it needs to be replaced.

And what effect do these glues have on the various glue-effect rubbers. Do they enhance the glue effect like using a glue such as Butterfly 'Clean Chack' does?

No, No, they are not speed glues, all they are good for is to apply the rubber to the blade. No need for speed glue with Plasma's & Omega's  :o

I know they aren't speed glues, but neither is Butterfly Clean chack- which is only supposed to apply the rubber to the blade, not speed glue it. However, with a few of the glue-effect and tensor rubbers, using normal glues like Butterfly Clean chack enhance the glue effect of the rubber quite a bit, giving it a freshly speed glued feel, though it dies off after a day.

I know a few people who glue their Tango rubbers with normal glue before each session to enhance it's glue effect, but they don't speed glue because that would wreck the rubber.

I was just wondering if these new Glue's, that aren't speed glues, would have the same enhancing effect on tensor and glue effect rubbers.

No Speed Glue effect what so ever - Thats the way I like it, Super predictable.

I used to do that.
Both of them (but not at the same time) :P

Clean chack gives a wee bit of affect because it is a volatile glue. It has some of the solvents (though a much lower %) that make speedglue speedy, so if you evaporated speedglue you'd end up with something like clean chack.

Can you get those water based glues in the small tube so I don't have to pay $20 for putting two tensor rubbers on my Strad?
