Black Dawei Inspirit 44 Degree Max
« on: October 29, 2007, 11:31:39 PM »
Ok I got an Inspirit along with my Stradivarius, and thought I would comment on it.  First impression is it's pretty hard, and heavier than typical jap/euro rubbers.  If I were to compare it to any rubber it would be Killerspin Fury.  Heavy, fast, reacts to priming very well, and pretty responsive to your motions.  The rubber is quite bouncy, and actually much more fun to play than what I remember about the Saviga.  However when I played my Saviga I didn't prime, or use EEII. Both softened the sponge quite a bit.  I put this on my backhand cause I was looking for a non tacky less reactive to incoming spin for my backhand.  This did a fairly good job of this, but the Black side is much more reactive to incoming spin than the red side of typical Dawei rubbers.  Control game is good, speed was excellent, blocking was great.  Keep in mind this is all being done on my new Stradivarius which is the highest control OFF rated blade I have played with, and does seem to lend a hand toward higher throw.  The throw of the Inspirit is medium from what I can tell.  I hate talking throw as it seems that some have different definitions of throw.  Serving has pretty good action on them.  There really aren't any shots you can't do with Inspirit, but I'm not as picky as most.  It seems everyone makes some statement about all rubbers that they can hit this shot, but can't hit that shot.  Nothing seems overwhelmingly difficult with the Inspirit, and I would totally recommend this rubber to someone looking for a cost alternative to euro rubbers.  Oh, and the durability of Dawei rubbers is far and away better than both jap and euro rubbers.  If they could get their weight down a little bit I would probably stop looking for a backhand rubber.

My only problem with Inspirit or Quattro is they are just too heavy!  I have one cut for my blade that weighs 56g! And that's only 2.2!  That's just too much for me.

It all depends on the hardness of the sponge, the harder sponges are always heavier. Light Rubbers generally mean poor durability, the Dawei Inspirit topsheet is quite thick, and thus a very durable rubber.

Personally I like the 42 degree version, not that heavy at all.

Both Inspirit and Quattro are heavier than average rubbers. As Rob pointed out that also means they last longer.

My main bat :

Timo Boll Spirit with 2mm Inspirit forehand and 2mm 39% Quattro = 185 grams

Red sheet of Inspirit = 47 grams
Black sheet of Quattro = 48 grams.

Second bat :

Dawei Wavestone with 2mm 44% Inspirit both sides = 183 grams.

The Red Inspirit = 47 grams.

Third bat :

Michael Maze with Max Sriver EL both sides = 180 grams

Michael maze = 90 grams

Max Sriver EL both sides = 90 grams

In comparison :
Red sheet of 2mm Mark V = 40 grams
Black Sheet of Mark V = 43 grams

Lightest rubber I've used is 2mm LKT Lightening, not sure of weight though.

I cannot understate how well Quattro in a soft version, 35 degree, works so well for my FH. I simply land more shots than before and have the confidence to go for them more often.

I have the quatro sponge under a Palio C topsheet, and it's very nice.  Much nicer than I thought it would be.  I'm quite impressed.

My soft sponge Quattro doesn't feel all that rock-heavy, but I like somewhat heavy outfits. Quattro simply helps me land many more shots on the FH, but isn't such an overpowering kind of rubber, which for now is good. Just what I need.
