Butterfly Mazunov
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:42:06 AM »
Have any of you tried this blade?

and if so with what rubbers? and what did you think of it?

My clubmate has this blade with 2.3mm Donic Supersonic S40 and I thought it was a good bat to play with.

A heavy, hard fast 5 ply wooden blade with fast/spinny soft rubbers does seem a good match.

It was my First fast all wood blade, I went to our local dealer and asked for something fast. I played with it for about 2 year, Its an excellant blade. very good for flat smashing and driving. The only problem I had was that the top plies came off to easily. I use to have Srivers on it.

Never Used a Korbel, but I'm sure my trusty friend Supachop Has, I will ask for you - especially as he's so afraid to get back and make some posts.

Yeah Supachop we do!

Perhaps we should do a poll for him to return, kinda like a petition, LOL.

Let him be? Not my style, as I reckon he and I (should it be me?) are the only def-players on this forum, I would love for him to leave his hidding place and share some valuable information with me. So, Supachop, come out and post, will you, please?!?! :D

And yes, I do love the Wavestone blade(s) =) (And almost 10 sheets of Nittaku Best Anti!)

I played with the Mazunov tonight, with 2.1mm Bryce forehand and 2.1mm Sriver G2 FX and it was fun to play with.

Much to my surprise, i played as consistently with it; as I did with the rubbers on the modified Wavestone.

The handle is very comfortable and the control is higher than Butterfly's rating in my opinion.

I prefer this blade over my other wooden blades i.e. Petr Korbel, Samsonov Alpha and Gatien Extra.

As you can see from my recent signature change, I've put the Bryce and Sriver G2 FX back onto the Wavestone and i'm now using 2.3mm Plasma 470 and 2mm Coppa on this blade.

Plasma 470 is one rubber i initially struggled with on the Andro Carbo Aramid, finding too many loops, smashes and line drives going long. I had the same problem with Plasma on the Gatien Extra too, which surprised me.

I then found a blade it did work on; a Michael Maze. Finally I was landing loops, smashes and line drives consistently.

Last week I decided to try the Plasma 470 on the Mazunov and so far, I'm quite happy with the results. Plasma 470 on the Mazunov is proving as good a blocking rubber, as Bryce on both the Mazunov and Wavestone and I've noticed that it is playing very consistently in the short game.

The real surprise is the grippy topsheet can produce good spin on serves and it's easy to control on the Mazunov. So, i'm going to leave the Plasma 470 on the Mazunov, as it works well for me on this blade.

One thing I really like about the Mazunov is the flared handle; because it's one of the most comfortable handles I've played with.

p.s. I recently bought a second Mazunov off Penquin on mytabletennis.net, that has been slightly modified to a smaller 157x150 head size, compared to 160x153 on my original Mazunov. It's just as enjoyable to play with as my original Mazunov.
