Playing best TT of my life right now
« on: January 22, 2012, 06:58:25 PM »
Usually, I am in a down curve in the various phases of the "learn new stuff" "mess it up in a mach" "get more consistent" "make it a strength in a match". The down curve is longer than you wnat it and is often a bummer.

Right now, I seem to be enjoying a nice spell of things coming together in matchplay. I recently changed rubbers fron T05 on FH and anything on BH, to Calibra LT and Aurus. I can use either side for FH or BH in a match. My heavy loops land a little more often, my blocking is improved, and my high power/high spin attackes are landing deeper, faster, and with more spin. The new rubbers really suit my style of stroke. Calibra LT is fast, low throw, and is a beast countering incoming topspins. Aurus is simply a machine with the ability to land my shots fast with safety.

There can be a lot of factor affecting such a positive stretch, but to me it is simply the things from my training coming together at the right time plus these rubbers really reward better impact.

I am usually not able to take much video in the places I am at, but should find a way to make a clip and upload it for everyone to dicect/digest/grind up.

I know I have been gaining in practice multiball/single ball, but inevitably, it never came together completely in real matches vs the top player in my club or the better players from my former club. I even did a heck of a lot better vs Lee Jae chul, the former Korean natl player who runs a club in Mapo area of Seoul.  Vs Lee J C, I would normally be lucky to win 5 points from him without a handicap. (Korean level say I should get a 5 pt handicap vs him) This time, out of 3 matches, I got to 9 points 3 times and 7 points 3 times as well.

I hope to continue this stretch, but it will end, yet I believe I will be even better come this summer.

Alot of people have trouble against players they know to be stronger, mostly because they try to play above themselves, or hit the ball harder then your safety limits, ect.

If you stick to your game and stay within yourself, as long as the other player isnt dramatically stronger, you should feel good while you play. Grats on the smooth patch, it should stay with you as long as your constantly hitting the ball.

When you play against higher level people constantly over time you get exposed to shots that force you to up your game or perish! If you get coaching along with it, the progression happens even faster. Keep it goin' man!

A point that counters my recent improved play is that I play much more poorly when I get into a cycle of poor sleep and too much activity. I have to get up at 5 AM pretty much every day minus weekend, sometimes work 24 hours, and after work, there is TT until 11PM M-F. Since I paid club dues for unlimited play and 3x lessons a week, I get my maximum value. I am often at the club past 10 PM and showering, relaxing before sleeping takes time. Man I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day! This meens I am often working on 3-4 hours of sleep a day M-F. I try to make it up on weekends, but a body can only go so long like this. Sometimes I have several days in a row without work, so if I can get 10-12 hours on those days, it goes a long ways towards recovering. I have also somehow added 3 kg to my weight, lkely from not sleeping enough and that never helps either. Yet that will turn around real soon as I go to another part of Korea for Exercises. At that camp, I will have to walk around a LOT and have a chance at more than 4 hours sleep. Every time I go to Exercises, I come back lighter and much more refreshed.

Saw two juniors in our club a few days ago. One of them played one of our city's strongest div 1 players and defeated him handily. I saaw these two kids, one 13, one 10 in hte club last night. I eventually got an opportunity to play the 10 year old. I was ready to give Kim Chul some revenge. That litter pecker could play! If I got into a rally where I hit hard at his body, he somehow stayed in hte point and placed the ball where I wasn't able to get to it. What a little twerp! That lil' joker has skillz. By the middle of the 1st game, I could catch the rythm of his serve and dictate the return on my serve to spin the ball heavy. That and heavy BH openers did the trick to win 3-0. If I continued to play all out and duke it out with that kid, I would have even today still been lying face down in a ditch. The medical examiner could have opened left eye and seen "K" written on the eye and "O" written on the other. That kid was impressive with a capital I. If I do not continue to improve at my current fast rate, that joker will pass me by in a year or two. He is surely headed to be a national standard div 1 level player for sure before he grows all his pubes. Those natl standard div 1 jokers are around Biggy's level. Teh average div 1 player around JKC's level and the strong ones a little above Wiggy's level. I hope I get a match vs the older on e of that pair. It was a pure joy to rally and lose 90% of those points to that kid. He impressed the heck outta me. I had to shift to gansta TT to win - strongly flick his serve with spin and serve/attack with heavy spin suddenly. I was on the short end of most long rallies where that kid finished with a sweet counter to an impossible location that he hit entirely with ease.

Suddenly played very poorly today. Do that every time I do too much TT and military without recovery. I never relaize it when I play as adreniline numbs the ability to detect the real level of energy present, but the day later, too easy to tell. Especially after playing 4 hours straight matches at full speed 2 days ago, i can tell what is up. This morning I got up after 12 hours of sleep, which is 3 times my normal insuficient sleep. Waist had zero power, abs were ripped and sore. I couldn't even do a 1/2 sit-up to get out of bed. I had to slowly shrimp my way into a position to get out of bed. No more TT this weekend unless I get crazy, well, at least nothing worse than loosening up. Serious TT is out of the question for a couple days.

Been playing even more and more anyways... and body getting worse and worse. TT was too much fun.

Now I am about to be away from my city for a few weeks. That means only TT in a poor rec place with maybe my KFTTC player a div or two below me.
That also meens at least 6 hours sleep solid a day.
By the end of these upcoming few weeks, I will likely lose the 4 kg I gained back and then some, plus be as rested as ever.

Every time I come back from thee trips, I play a level higher as my body is not wore out from TT everyday months on end.

Occassionally Reb!

I'm actually now a moderator on our 800 member bottle forum, with around  a 1000 posts a week... so I'm sorta glad this one's very quiet, so I can keep up with reading the posts

So are you playing Dandy vets??

I'm very happy with my game at the moment... played a massive match last night against Shepp's 2nd top player! managed to survive 4 match points to win the best of 13 games; 14-12 in the 13th!!
Actually a bit sore today too!

I can't play, but I may pop my head in the door if the opportunity presents itself.

When you drop in.... bring the celebratory cake for when I've made Division 2 for the first time thanks   lp

And can someone make sure the man above that likes to throw his rating points away stays out of my side of the draw
