Blade Suggestions
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:00:22 PM »
I need to buy a new Blade as my Stiga Clipper(the really, really old one) is a bit out of date.

As I coach with an organisation that promotes Andro I would like it to be a blade from that brand.
I don't like carbon, but I do prefer 7 ply blades.
Preferably extremely light weight with very hard outer plies.

I play a very strong attacking game focused on overwhelming my opponents with powerful 3rd and 5th ball attacks but also rely on a blade that lets me serve with a lot of ball contact(hence hatred of carbon).

Any suggestions would be great as I am not very up to date with all the new stuff on the market.

Reb your last choice is the best one, the new Aratox Fibres really bridge the gap between The feeling of an all wood blade and the stiffness of a ridig carbon blade. The 2 Tronum blades are a fantastic choice, knowing the style of play that pocket rocket plays, the faster version is my bet to suit him. Paired with Hexer HD, he'll be in 7th heaven.

I figured it might be the go Rob. It sounds like a tech advancement that may suit PR's game. Mind you, I'm sure playing more often would help too  hhh

Rob

Are the Andro Tronum blades about the same thickness as the Temper Tech equivalents or are they thinner?

Those new andro blades look the business. I only know about the donic blades so ill ask, are these new blades more like a persson powerplay or a waldner black devil?
or perhaps somewhere in between?

Also had a look at some Hexxar HD's on Craig Carters Raquet and noticed that they looked cloudy?
Like what  an ordinary rubber would look like if it were dead?

They are about the same thickness as the Temper techs, the differance is the new fibre thats now used, it gives a feeling of a wood blade, but the speed of a carbon blade.

Pocket Rocket, the Carbotox that Craig has is rated at OFF, its not super fast by any stretch of the imagination, much slower than the Donic Black Devil that you used for years.
The first time Supachop and I picked one up, we though that due to the High control levels it felt more like an allround blade. The Tronum Carbotox certainly tames the beast in Hexer HD.

Someone on OOAK described the Tronum as hard, fast, no spin or feeling - like a sheet of metal in the hand. What would you say to that Rob?

I would say everyone to there own. Firstly what rubbers did he have on it - Hurricane. What level does he play, maybe he's a BTY fan, maybe he works for BTY - can you see, its all subjective.  Andro Rate the Tronum Arotox as very fast, Craig uses the tronum Carbotox - big differance between those 2 blades. I think that a BTY Gergerly is hard and fast, yet I used one for many Years, along with may other fast blades. personally I read many comments on Forums and sometimes break out into uncontrollable laughter.  I believe that there was a comment on OOKT forum saying that Hexer HD was slow hhh
What do you say about that.

yes Craigs blade did seem very controlled even though it was a carbon blade. I would probably still prefer something a little quicker with more life in the wood.

It looks like I might go with the Tempar Techs OFF+ or OFF as they have a good control and speed.

Iv'e never liked blades that look like space ships anyway.

Your also correct about how table tennis equipment ratings are mostly unique to each person, however as the level of the player gets higher the less subjective these opinions get as most players at a high level come to very similar conclusions.

Well I have my mates sheet of Hexer HD that he didn't like (thought was too heavy) on one of my Gergely's now. I've only hit with it against the robot so far, and it is a bit heavier than Hexer+. Speed seems similar, but its harder to tell against robot. I'll have a hit with it tonight before matches and tell you what I really think then.

And I too felt that it (the metal sheet comment) was probably a comment due to him being used to slower blades. It was Greggy who made it and he is a chopper after all. So it needs to be borne in mind. You have met Greggy Rob, so you'd know better than me.
