Author Topic: Korea Foreigners TTC made it to finals of warm-up tourney today (Read 1014 times)

Our Korean Foreigner's TTC did a warmup tourney at a local club (Sky TTC) in preparation for the big regional tourney happening the following day. There were a ton of under-rated jokers, like a div 3 playing div 5, but that is how you roll sometimes. One of our club members couldn't make it to the venue in time to get into the tourney. Bad break, he prolly would have won it all. Our TT superstars all advanced, but fell to the most under-rated ones. I had to deal with that too. I met a woman who plays OX LP on BH and very aggressively punches the ball to deprive you of time and can place it well. she also has a rocket of a FH to kill you if you give her a loose ball on the FH. She would give Pushblocker some major problems. I had to give her a 2 point handicap each game and I NEVER ever before defeated her playing straight up, I lost 2-3 both times before. Now, with spotting her 2 pts a game how did it go? I played the best tactical game of my life adn won out 11-9 in the 5th set. I ended up crashing out in the final to a lifelong TT athlete who got rated in div 5. (Dude would be be div 2 in our regional tourney tomarrow minimum) Most singles usually have a round robin with 2/3's of the group advancing to a knockout stage. RR groups were very large this time - 6 players. Usually it is 3 players.

Still, all went well. My objectives for this tourney were pretty easy. I wanted to show our Foreigners TTC to our city players. I wanted to wear our new jersey and represent our KFTTC and our sponsor proudly. I wanted to get my body loose for tomarrow's regional tourney. I wanted to meet some more TT players. I wanted to drink a few beers, relax, eat some peanuts, play a few matches, and get my mind loose for tomarrow. I wanted to be ready to not get bent out of shape over anything, so i could perform tomarrow. Making the final was way more than I was shooting for as there are too many under-rated ones in the field, like 2-3 divisions under-rated. I managed to play all my matches under control and not blow any fuses. That happens very rarely and it happened today. we also had a great dinner of Samgyupsal afterwards.

Joel watching the action. Joel is a TT superstar and has made quite a name for himself here as a foreigner in Korea. He couldn't get into this tourney. Joel is expected to win div 1 of the regional tourney tomarrow and help our "A" team win.

Our KFTTC did real well at TDC regional Tourney.

I advanced as No1 out of RR group, but lost a close match in crossovers in Div 2 action & crashed out.
Me and Mike got 3rd pplace in Men's Div 2 doubles.
Joel won div 1 Mens.
Ming got 2nd in Div 1 Mens to make it an all KFTTC affair.
Ming/Joel got 2nd place in Men's div 1 doubles.

Nice picks Der, thanks for posting, I'm still not too keen on this lack of individual courts though especially with the tables so close together, the balls coming across must be maddening.

Hey Wiggy, I've been on ground here doing club play and tourneys like this for 2 years and I am still not used to to a let happening every 5 seconds (that never gets called unless a ball bounces ON your table or you run INTO someone)

Nathan, the TT here beats that concrete floor and the Romanian Army any day of the week, but those were some great friends.

I bet you would like one, eh? Hehe. I had to go to Nexy HQ in Buchoen and ask the CEO to sponsor our squad. He also gave us free Nexy rucksacks. Pic Below. Nexy is uber cool and we did him proud with our results dominating div 1 and making noise in other div 2 play. Our next round of shirts will be better with some graphics of TAK9.com and our future KFTTC Logo we will make.

Yeah, I sucked, but I made it to the finals at least.

The semifinal game the opponent was one who I never defeated before, yet I had to give a 2 pt handicap this vid was the final set. I had to use different strokes and look "weird" but that is how I roll.

Looking at the vid of the final, I looked worse than I felt I performed, and yes, I felt the performance was not very good.

At least our team looked particularly motivated and in unison.

Group photo looked really nice Der.... you've lost quite a bit of weight, I'm sure it has helped your game with regards to movement and agility. I saw the yellow shirt you gave Reborn at Dandenong, he wears it so proudly.

I think I was one of the few women that started to wear skorts when playing table tennis, it just makes the girls more feminine. Anyway, I am glad to see that this year, the majority of women are wearing it at the Australian National Championship in Adelaide.

We may not always play as smoothly but we should at least look nice trying ... ha, ha

Reb wants one of our team's jerseys, but it will be a while before I get a bunch of them. I may end up sending him a Nexy Blue Wind jersey and maybe get it lettered. Too bad it costs so much to ship even one shirt, still maybe Nexy has that one still on sale.

That shirt I got Reb, I picked up two for $10. Koreans are uniform crazy and EVERYONE has one or two or three of those Yasaka shirts that say Table Tennis is my Life, but in different designs. Koreans spend an average of $200 on their outfit, including shoes and tons more on their accessories, like TT bags, rucksacks, cases, and other assorted charms. Koreans are even crazier about having the whole squad wear the same jerseys, then make a new one every year. The costs add up. Fortunately, playing TT and taking lessons here is uber cheap.

The Blue Wind shirt. Imagine how it look with the lettering. In a bit, our club will make our badge and sew that on as well.

Nexy is smooth out of Blue Wind shirts, but I got you a Stiga Creation jersey. Our KFTTC ITTF Umpire is getting it lettered today and will bring it to our tourney this wekend, so maybe I can mail it out Monday. By the time we add the cost of lettering to the shirt and my cost of shipping (it will be less than Nexy's but not by a whole lot) it will prolly be around $50 to $55 USD. If the shirt doesn't come with an Aussie flag on it, get one sewed on, it will look real sharp.
